Jennifer Bogut: To Cancel or Not To Cancel My New Yorker Subscription

Per chi vive in Italia, la lettura di un articolo come questo è respirare una ventata di aria pura e vivificante (Estraggo dal corpo dell'articolo - grassetto mio):

...Most Americans firmly believe the church should not govern the government, and vice versa. It was a very big deal in 1960 when John F. Kennedy became the first Roman Catholic president, but that was almost half a century ago. Have we matured at all? Personally, I do not care if my president is Christian, Jewish, Lutheran, follows Confucianism, Hindu, Taoist, Presbyterian, Chinese Universalist or an Atheist. If a particular religion dictates violence or hatred, that would be a different story, but the overwhelming majority of Muslims, (and Christians and Jews, etc.), are civilized and peace-loving people. In 1790, George Washington wrote (to members of the first American synagogue):
"...the government of the United States, which gives to bigotry so sanction, to persecution no assistance, requires only that they who live under its protection demean themselves as good citizens..." .
